A recipe for gluten-free biscuits by a Great British Bake Off star, cooking masterclasses with some of the region’s best chefs and a wartime kitchen are just some of the highlights of this year’s new-look Sheffield Food Festival.
The Sheffield Hallam University-organised festival has issued its new programme for this year’s event, which will take place on the bank holiday weekend between Saturday 24 May and Monday 26 May.
This year, the festival will stretch from The Moor Market towards the city centre as the University celebrates a new partnership with Sheffield City Council City Centre Management and Major Events team and Scottish Widows Investment Partnership Trust (SWIPT).
Top billing goes to Howard Middleton, star of last year’s Great British Bake Off, who will make two types of gluten–free biscuits, and Max Fischer, Sheffield Hallam Honorary Doctor and Michelin Starred chef.
There will be masterclasses from Lee Swords, head chef of Napoleons, Owlerton, and Russell Caines, from the Devonshire Arms.
And BBC Radio Sheffield will return to stage a local version of Ready, Steady, Cook, where two presenters will attempt to create a culinary sensation with just £5 of ingredients and 30 minutes to spare.
Visitors will also be able to visit a wartime-era kitchen and festival allotment on Town Hall Square, and get the lowdown on Sheffield Hallam’s food offer at a stall in the Winter Garden.
Old favourites such as the festival kitchen and beer tent will also make an appearance, and new activities including a cookery book swap on Monday have been introduced.
