A Sheffield Hallam University student is preparing for an emotional return to the Boston Marathon this year – so he can help his dad over the finish line and complete the race he was stopped from finishing last year.
Third year architectural technology student Anthony Meenaghan had finished the Boston Marathon when bombs exploded close to the finish line. His dad, Tony, had not completed the marathon at that point and was diverted by police at the 25-mile mark, meaning he was unable to complete the course.
Anthony, from Bingham in Nottinghamshire, who is raising money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, will run next weekend’s Boston Marathon – just even days after competing in London.
He said: “I’m aiming for a good time in London but in Boston, I’m going to run it with my dad. It will be very surreal and emotional going back there. It’s a great course and great people and I’m sure the reaction from the crowds will be brilliant.”
