On Thursday 22 May this year, if you are registered to vote, you will not only be able to vote in the local elections as normal, but also in the European Elections.
The local elections enable you to vote to elect the Councillors of Sheffield who will represent your views for the ward in which you live.
The European Elections are held every five years. In this election you are voting to elect by proportional representation. This means that you do not vote for an individual candidate but for a political party to represent your views in the European Parliament. Find out more at www.sheffield.gov.uk/elections
Are you registered to vote?
If you’re not registered, you won’t be able to vote. Most people register to vote using the form that the Council sends to each household every year. If you are not on the electoral register currently (you may not be registered to vote if you have moved house in the last few months), you will need to complete a voter registration form and send it to the Electoral Services to arrive by Tuesday 6 May.
You can find out if you are registered to vote, or request a voter registration form, by contacting the Electoral Services by telephone on (0114) 273 4093 or by emailing elections@sheffield.gov.uk.
Everybody who is registered to vote will receive a poll card by Friday 28 April. Find out more at www.sheffield.gov.uk/elections
