Personal device security

Staff may wish to use personal devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops to connect to various SHU IT services.  If you choose to synchronise work email to your personal device you must encrypt the device, and password protect it. This also applies to syncing calendars if the entries may contain (or have attached) personal or sensitive data.

When using other services you should avoid putting personal or sensitive data on a personal device if at all possible, but if you have no alternative then your device must be encrypted.  This applies to USB storage as well as intelligent devices.

The advice is to encrypt your device in accordance with the University Encryption Policy where possible.

More information on all University IT Policies can be found on the Electronic Information Security Framework (EISF) intranet site at http://eisf.shu.ac.uk/
