Inaugural Professorial Lecture – Professor Helen Richardson

Dr Helen Richardson has had a varied career including hooking people up to haemo-dialysis machines, working in Social Care and running a Research and Training Unit promoting Positive Action for Women at Work.
She started out in the academic world in 1998 as a Lecturer in Information Systems at the University of Salford and later Reader at Salford Business School. She was appointed Professor of Gender and Organisation at Sheffield Business School in 2012.
Reflecting her working life, her research interests and publications are also eclectic. These include critical research in information systems, gender matters in the global location of work, and the impacts of Lean ways of working in the public sector, particularly dimensions of gendered ill-health.
Helen has led several funded projects investigating the severe underrepresentation of women in the ICT sector. Currently she is heading an ESRC seminar series exploring home-based telework in the European labour market.
