Professor Charmaine Childs’ research is in the field of human trauma. After studying for an M.Phil and PhD in thermoregulation and metabolism after severe burns in children, she joined the MRC Trauma Centre in 1992. In 2002, her research changed focused and she joined the Brain Injury Research Group (University of Manchester) to study the role of brain temperature on survival and neurological outcome. Working with international collaborators, she introduced new methods for brain temperature monitoring and imaging. In 2009, Charmaine was invited to the National University of Singapore (Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine). She joined Sheffield Hallam University’s Centre for Health and Social Care Research as Professor of Clinical Science in 2013.
