This time of year, thousands of people are affected by seasonal flu. To help to reduce the spread of flu you should:
- ensure you wash your hands regularly with soap and water,
- clean surfaces regularly to get rid of germs,
- use tissues to cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and
- put used tissues in a bin as soon as possible.
Free flu jabs are also available via GPs for you or your family members if any of you are an ‘at-risk’ person, i.e.
- people aged 65 or over
- pregnant women
- people with a specific serious medical conditions
- people living in a residential or nursing home
- the main carers for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if the carer becomes ill
- healthcare or social care professionals directly involved in patient care
