Healthcare training provision at Sheffield Hallam has been commended by the Department of Health (DH).
During a visit by the DH’s director of workforce strategy, Jamie Rentoul; deputy director for external relations analysis, Simon Peck and Margit Veveris from Health Education England (HEE), the University’s training facilities were acknowledged as fantastic.
The visitors saw examples of cutting edge research and practice in physical activity, wellbeing and sports engineering, as University teams demonstrated how they are working with partners to deliver a health legacy from London 2012 – The National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine.
Jamie also observed a complex scenario involving a range of key professionals including operating department practitioners and radiographers.
Sheffield Hallam is one of the country’s largest training providers for nurses, midwives, diagnostic radiographers and other allied health professions and the DH team were able to see first-hand how students are fully equipped for a career in the health industry, following a tour of the University’s Robert Winston Building – home to its Faculty of Health and Wellbeing.
Demonstrations were given of the faculty’s augmented reality technology – designed to help students communicate effectively and compassionately with patients, as well as other simulated and interactive facilities, including the simulated operating theatre and the new laser technology installed to compliment the virtual radiotherapy system.
