A group of art and design researchers have received an Arts Council England grant to develop an interactive, online exhibition, which allows users to download objects and create their own exhibition.
The Gravity project, led by academics at Sheffield Hallam, has received £14,950 from the Arts Council to develop a pilot project that uses rapid-prototyping technology to produce a series of downloadable objects.
Fine art academics Penny McCarthy, Becky Shaw and Andrew Sneddon of Sheffield Hallam’s Art and Design Research Centre, launched the Gravity programme of exhibitions and events in 2010.
Penny McCarthy said: “The idea is that people will be able to download a series of objects, and make an exhibition anywhere, in any space around the world.
“This project will explore the concept of pleasure, and our guest speakers will explore objects that have significance for them. Each object will then be added to our online inventory, and can be downloaded.”
Gravity was launched in 2010 as a way of stimulating discussion of fine art among students, academics and practitioners. The Gravity lecture series runs weekly on Thursdays 4pm-6pm in the University’s Pennine Lecture Theatre. For more information visit www.gravity21.org
