The creative director of internationally-renowned design and manufacturing company David Mellor Design, Corin Mellor, will receive an honorary doctorate in November.
Corin will join graduates from Sheffield Hallam’s art and design courses at a graduation ceremony at Sheffield City Hall on Monday 11 November.
Born in Sheffield in 1966, Corin trained as a product designer and worked for the London architects YRM, before joining his father at David Mellor Design.
Corin’s public seating can be found in the Lowry Gallery in Salford Quays, the Millennium Galleries and Winter Garden in Sheffield. He has also received a number of important commissions, public and private, including a sculptural bench for Chatsworth House, a large scale candelabrum for Sheffield Cathedral, and a series of major works in solid silver for a Middle Eastern royal family.
Corin has most recently worked with the University on its exclusive Steel and Light exhibition, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of David Mellor’s seminal cutlery range Symbol. Steel and Light also marks the centenary of stainless steel, which was developed in Mellor’s home city of Sheffield.
The free exhibition, David Mellor: Steel and Light, is being shown by Sheffield Hallam University in Sheffield Institute of Arts Gallery from 27 September to 3 November.
