World Mental Health Day is the annual global celebration of mental health education, awareness and advocacy.

Every year – on 10 October – we join together in shining the spotlight on a particular aspect of mental ill health. The theme for 2015 is Dignity in Mental Health.

To mark this year’s day Sheffield Hallam will have a stall on Level 2 of the Atrium, City Campus on Thursday 8 October from 10-3pm where students can pick up information and chat about all aspects of mental health with SHU staff . Local organisations such as Sheffield Alcohol Services will also be on hand.  Our famous smoothie bike will also be available if you fancy having a go at making your own smoothie.

At Sheffield Hallam we’re keen to raise awareness of the issues and stigma often associated with mental ill health and to promote positive mental health for all students and staff.  To that end we’re involved in a number of initiatives that promote positive change around mental health, and last October the University and Hallam Students Union signed up to the Time to Change Pledge which is a national campaign that seeks to end mental health discrimination.  We also regularly team up with Sheffield organisations such as Sheffield Mind and get involved in city-wide events and activities that promote positive mental health and wellbeing across the city.

Sheffield Mental Health Week runs from 5 – 11 October where you can get involved in a range of activities exploring mental health across the city. Check out the programme link for full details.
