FD & DID moved into their new building, 1 Furnival Square (previously known as Arundel House) last month. I have had the pleasure of representing IS&T on the Building ‘Steering Group’ and the related ‘New Ways of Working’ Project Board since April 2013. ‘New Ways of Working’ introduced challenges for us around location-free working which new technologies such as ‘User-Environment Virtualisation’, ‘Unified Communications’ and ‘Follow Me Printing’ have allowed us to overcome.
Following 18 months of collaboration advising on ICT solutions via the Board and Steering Group I was asked to Project Manage the ICT installation and Onsite Support during the 4 week move in period. This involved the installation and testing of all ICT equipment and Systems ready for the following weeks relocation. As each department moved in, we provided ‘at elbow support’ as well as continuing with the installation of the next area.
This close working relationship between IS&T, FD and DID has resulted in a highly successful project. Staff in 1 Furnival Square are very happy with their new building and with the technologies IS&T have provided and continue to support.
I’d personally like to thank my colleagues from the various departments in IS&T, DID and FD for making the project a pleasure to work on and the success it is.
