Digital Technology Services is improving the University’s wired and wireless network to build in more resilience and increased capacity. This is so that it can meet the growth in the service which is predicted over the next few years. The work involves upgrading the hardware that provides the core of the network and, to do this, DTS teams will be making changes in buildings around campus.
Some of this work has already taken place and some is still being scheduled. Wherever possible, the timing of work which might be potentially disruptive is mutually agreed. Careful planning and consultation allows us to work with staff around the University to make sure students are aware of any downtime and that any impact is minimised
We spend time checking buildings to see what IT equipment is used and finding out what might need special treatment. We also work closely with IT Help and IT Support to ensure the appropriate level of support is in place for the days after any change.
