The chief nurse at one of the largest and busiest NHS Trusts in the country has been named as visiting professor at Sheffield Hallam University in recognition of his contribution to nursing nationally and within the South Yorkshire region.
Professor Chris Morley became chief nurse at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2018. Previously Chris’s thirty-two year nursing career included seven years as deputy chief nurse for the trust before becoming chief nurse at The Rotherham Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Chris is the professional lead for nurses and midwives at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which employs over 6.500 nurses and midwives across five hospitals and community services. Chris is also responsible for patient experience, safeguarding, infection control, facilities services, such as catering and laundry, and estate services.
His role at the University will see Chris work with the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing to help support and educate the next generation of nurses going into the profession.
Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing, Professor Alison Metcalfe, said: “We are delighted that Chris is joining us at Sheffield Hallam University as a visiting professor. Chris is a nationally recognised leader in nursing and midwifery and will collaborate with us to promote cross-organisational work in the education of our students, preparing them for future roles in health, and to undertaking research to improve the way we provide care and services.”

Professor Chris Morley said: “I am very honoured to be made a visiting professor at Sheffield Hallam University. I intend to use this new role to build on this success and inspire existing and new nurses/midwives to maximise the fantastic opportunities we have available here in Sheffield.”
