FFPS: Fantastic Faculty Professional Services

On the 4th July, HWB Faculty Professional Services (FPS) held its inaugural awards event in Hallam View. Over 60 nominations were received from staff right across the faculty for both individual and team awards – a fantastic amount.

The purpose of the awards was for the department to celebrate the hard work, dedication and achievements of staff in supporting the faculty and University to meet its ambitions. The awards recognise how staff have made a real difference to the broader life of students, staff, external stakeholders, service users, the faculty and wider university.

As many of you are aware; the Professional Services Operating Model (PSOM) is well underway, and understandably Philip Wain made reference to the ‘elephant in the room’ in his opening address. The awards are a great opportunity to celebrate all that has been achieved in FPS in its current guise and to show colleagues just how much we value each other. There was a great turnout on the day and a real, genuine feeling of togetherness.

The seemingly never ending (but very impressive!) raffle draw saw the majority of staff win prizes; from a night at the dogs to a luxurious three course dinner for two, nobody left empty handed as every colleague received a voucher from Piccolino’s restaurant.

The award categories

Making a Difference…Together
To recognise a collection of individuals working together who have made a significant and positive impact. This could be an established work team or a collection of individuals from different areas who have worked together collaboratively on a project or initiative.

The award recognises a team as a whole, and every member of the team individually has demonstrated the following:

  • Continually strives for excellence
  • Consistently provides exceptional support to other teams, colleagues, students and/or external stakeholders
  • Demonstrates excellent team working

Bright Ideas

To recognise an individual or team who:

  • Exemplifies effort towards new ideas or ways of doing things
  • Develops and improves methods, processes and procedures through original thinking or drawing on a range of experiences
  • Participates in collaborative problem-solving, breaking down boundaries and/or creating new relationships to improve the way work gets done
  • Embraces change as an opportunity for growth and innovation
  • May have taken a proactive approach toward finding a solution to a challenge.

Superstar Service

To recognise an individual or team who delivers an excellent service within Faculty, University or with external stakeholders:

  • Delivers superb service either directly or working with others to improve the experience of staff or other stakeholder
  • Is committed to the delivery of excellent service at all times.
  • Goes out of their way to put the customer first, often outside the limitations of their own area
  • Listens to and fulfils and needs of service users and manages expectations as needed
  • May have anticipated and proactively met expectations
  • Has received positive feedback from service users.

Nominations for the awards were so vast that the judging panel, consisting of Philip Wain (former Head of Professional Services for HWB), Susan Tallents (HR Business Partner for HWB) and Rebecca Malone (Colleague Engagement Manager in FD) had a really tough time narrowing them down to form shortlists.

And the winners are…

Thank you to all who nominated, contributed and attended, especially the awards committee who planned the event for several months, it was a great success.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees, I know it is clichéd, but there were so many deserving winners, and the amount of nominations (which covered all areas of FPS) showed just how much the entire department is valued by the whole faculty, and it was rightly celebrated; a very fitting way to bring this current chapter towards its close.
