Hallam expert talks to the BBC ahead of new television deal.  Football finance expert Dr Rob Wilson spoke to BBC 5Live about the new deal for Premier League television rights, which is expected to exceed £6bn today. The last deal saw an increase of 70% and Dr Wilson gives his thoughts on the expected increase this time around, which will see more than 200 live games broadcast from the 2019/20 season, and whether digital companies like Amazon may make a bid for the rights. Dr Rob Wilson spoke to BBC World Service [listen again from 16:10] about why the Premier League has seen a decline in the bid for rights to broadcast matches in the UK.  In total BT and Sky bid £4.4bn to screen 200 games for each season between 2019 and 2022, falling short of the £5.1bn agreed in 2015.

Meanwhile, Dr Dan Plumley spoke to BBC Radio Wales [listen again from 1:49:14] about the TV rights deal as part of an interview which focussed on crowdfunding for athletes travelling to Pyeongchang to compete in the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The pair also wrote a blog piece for the Football Collective about why the football TV rights deal has seen such a staggering increase in the last 25 years.
