In less than a week 6,000 student athletes will be heading to Sheffield for the 2015 #BUCSnationals, a sporting event between students from universities all over Britain. Find out more at the Students’ Union.
The Global Friends project is where you can meet a British student socially and is a great way to get to know British culture and Sheffield too. The British student may also ask you a few questions about the way English is taught in your home country as part of research they are undertaking.
If you are interested in this project please complete the online form:
It is VERY IMPORTANT that you ask an international friend to complete the form as well so they can join you at the meeting, so you must meet in groups of 2 or 3. The British student will arrange the meeting at a time that is convenient to you both.

The Innovation Award is a funding opportunity for Sheffield Hallam University students and recent graduates that have new and innovative ideas for social enterprises.
There are two funding rounds a year where you can apply for up to £500 under our Start Up award to test out a business idea or run a project, or you can apply for up to £2,500 through the Grow It award for an established business idea. For more information and for examples of projects we have funded please check out the case studies.
The Innovation Award drop-ins give you the chance to discover more about the award and to speak to the Student Union’s Social Enterprise Team about your idea.
You can also attend a session to help you write a successful application form for the Innovation Award.
Check out this video about social enterprise, too:
If you do not book a one-to-one appointment to see an immigration adviser at least 2 weeks before your visa is due to expire, then we may not be able to assist you with your application and you will have to send your documents off yourself.
You must attend a group session before you can book a one-to-one appointment.
It is important that you attend a group session at least 2 months before your visa is due to expire. You will be unable to get a CAS application form if you have not attended a group session.
The next group sessions will be taking place as follows:
February
March

Please come to the Student Services Centre, Level 5 Owen or Heart of the Campus to book on to a group session.
30 fully funded PhD scholarships for September 2015
The scholarships are for home, EU and international applicants. They cover your tuition fees (at home/EU levels) and provide maintenance at Research Council UK levels – £14,057 for 2015/16 – for three years of full-time study, normally commencing in September/October 2015. Therefore as an international applicant, you would have to find another source of funding to cover the cost difference between home/EU and international fees.
If you are interested in applying for a PhD scholarship, the deadline for all applications is 12 noon on Friday 20 March 2015.
