  • If you are interested in working full-time in the UK after you graduate, then Working in the UK after studies sessions provide information about Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 5 visa routes.

  • The Home Office has published information on the proposed visa fee increases from April 2015.  Read about them here to find out if this affects you.
  • Is your visa due to expire soon? If so, you must attend a group session.

Enter the SHU GoGlobal Competition!

Share your experiences of going global to inspire others and you could win an iPad mini.

The SHU GoGlobal blog competition is to create an online blog about your experience of internationalising while being a student at Sheffield Hallam University. Internationalising is the process of gaining an understanding of other cultures and developing a global outlook.

The brief is to create an online blog which records the best stories from your time at Sheffield Hallam or your study/work experience abroad and the impact the experience has had on you and your future.

Please read and agree to the terms and conditions here before entering and you can register to enter this competition here.

The competition deadline is Friday 26 June 2015. The three winners will be announced on 1 July 2015.

University Mental Health and Wellbeing Day

Wednesday 18 February
Various locations including Hallam Hall and Heart of the Campus

This Wednesday is University Mental Health and Wellbeing Day, an annual event aimed at promoting the wellbeing of students and staff in Higher Education.

The theme will be ‘Choose to Disclose’ and students will be invited to consider disclosing their mental health difficulties to the University and to social contacts.  You can find more information about this at http://www.umhan.com/umhan-blog/i-chose-to-disclose-campaign.

Students and staff will have the opportunity to share their own experiences in an informal setting, to hear from others and to find out about support that is available following disclosure, as well as having a cup of tea and a chat!

A Wellbeing Fair will be held in Hallam Hall from 11am – 2pm with representatives from local services including Mind and Samaritans, HR and University support services.  Refreshments will be available as well activities including smoothie making and signing up to your own individual pledge.  There will also be an information and activities session in the Heart of the Campus building on the same day.

SYEDA Biteback – eating disorder support group

Wednesday 18 February, 6pm – 7.30pm
HC.0.17, Heart of the Campus, Collegiate Campus

Are constant thoughts about food and exercise stopping you from studying, socialising and relaxing?

Biteback is a support group for students with an eating disorder. It is run in partnership with South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association (SYEDA).

Sessions are led by trained SYEDA volunteers who offer free support, information and a safe, confidential, private space to share your experiences.

Admission is free. No need to book, just come along.

  • Sheffield Hallam: third Wednesday of the month, 6–7.30pm
  • University of Sheffield: third Monday of the month, 5–6.30pm, the Octagon TV Lounge

Prepare For The Fair – for international students

Careers and recruitment fairs are a great way to make a good first impression and network with potential employers. But what are the best ways to do this?

This practical, interactive workshop aims to help you:

  • feel more confident in knowing how to prepare for UK recruitment fairs / other events
  • understand different ways of interacting with UK employers (and give you the chance to ask questions about how things work in the UK)
  • gain a better understanding of what we mean by networking techniques
  • know how to build on contacts after the event

Proposed visa fee increase

The Home Office have published information on the proposed visa fee increases from April 2015.

Please be aware that if your Tier 4 visa is due to expire after 5 April 2015, the new fee you will have to pay from 6 April 2015 will be £439 instead of £422.

The following application fees are also increasing:

 Tier 1 Graduate entrepreneur will increase from £422 to £456;

Tier 2 General will increase from £601 to £651;

BRP replacement will increase from £40 to £45;

Transfer of Conditions will increase from £107 to £183

Fairtrade Fortnight

Monday 23 February – Sunday 8 March
The HUBS

A fortnight dedicated to supporting Fairtrade and an opportunity to find out more about the organisation and what they do.

Over the two weeks there will be various events and activities, with fair trade themed stalls at HUBS, a promotion of Fairtrade products in Pod 4 and other activities and things to see around both of the university campuses.
