There’s never been a better time to return your overdue library books!

At the beginning of July, Sheffield Hallam is changing the way students and staff borrow books from the library.

In preparation for this change, we need to make sure that our records are all as up to date as possible. This means that we need students and staff to return any overdue items to either the Adsetts or Collegiate Libraries as a matter of urgency.

Records show that we need 8,230 overdue books to be returned so that others can use them. To replace them, it would cost £228,064!

City-298-Adsetts

Therefore, to encourage you to return items, we’re having a fines amnesty – this means that if students return these items to us before Monday 1 June, any fines for items which are currently overdue will not be charged.

So there really has never been a better time to return your library books!

Home and International Masters-level students, can you help us?

We are interested in how you cope with masters level study and in examining the personal characteristics that help you cope.

The knowledge generated will assist us to improve the student experience.

You are being asked to complete an anonymous online questionnaire which will take 15-20 minutes. Further details are given in the questionnaire.  If you would like to take part, please access the link below:

https://shusls.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_0ICQ9N6ntOs1BPL

If you know someone else on a UK Masters who is willing to take part too, please forward the link to them.

Is your visa due to expire soon?

If you do not book a one-to-one appointment to see an immigration adviser at least 2 weeks before your visa is due to expire, then we may not be able to assist you with your application and you will have to send your documents off yourself.

You must attend a group session before you can book a one-to-one appointment.

It is important that you attend a group session at least 2 months before your visa is due to expire. You will be unable to get a CAS application form if you have not attended a group session.

The next group sessions will be taking place as follows:

June

  • Tuesday 9 – 10am
  • Thursday 18 – 2pm
  • Tuesday 23 – 10am

Please come to the Student Services Centre, Level 5 Owen or Heart of the Campus to book on to a group session.

Do you speak Mandarin?

Mandarin speakers are required for research into Psychometric test Developments.

Are you aware that online tests are often used by employers when they are looking to recruit graduates? Many use verbal, numerical and logical thinking tests. Do you wonder what your score would be if the test was in Mandarin? How would this score compare to the same test written in English?

The Careers and Employment Service are taking part in a research project with test publishers, Team Focus, to try to answer such questions and would like to ask you to participate.  In return you will not only get the chance to practise some of these tests but you will also receive a report that we hope you will find useful.

The tests that are available for you to take are

  • Verbal reasoning
  • Numerical reasoning
  • Abstract reasoning
  • Personality Type Indicator

If you would like to take part and access the tests online please contact Karen Allan, Employment Adviser on K.Allan@shu.ac.uk.

The trial is continuing throughout the summer.
