What can SHU GoGlobal do for you?

We thought it would be a good idea to highlight our Facebook page: what does it do and how can you get involved?

The SHU GoGlobal page is a place for us to speak to students, to give you information about things going on in Sheffield, opportunities to work and study abroad, as well as a social hub, enabling students from all around the world to come together and learn about each other’s culture.

It’s the best place on the web to keep up-to-date with what the International Experience Team are up to, as well as to be the first to hear about any opportunities to work with us to welcome and support new and existing students.

So there you have it, if you haven’t already then like our page!

A cultural celebration and future opportunities

On Friday 29 April, mentors and mentees from the Culture Connect scheme got together to put on a fantastic celebration event that they had planned and organised, pulling together with the help of students and the local community.

Students put on a great array of entertainment, including musical performances, a pole fitness exhibition and speeches given by members of Culture Connect to share their experiences and successes.

There was also a selection of refreshments on sale, as well as a raffle, both of which were in aid of the recent earthquakes in Ecuador: a fantastic cause to raise money for.

We’d like to say a massive thank-you to all of the students who were involved with the event, helping to organise, plan and perform on the evening.

Want to get involved with Culture Connect in the future? We’ll be recruiting for mentees and mentors again in September. Check SHU GoGlobal for updates.

Art Sheffield: Up Down Top Bottom Strange & Charm

Art Sheffield 2016 is a citywide contemporary art event, curated this year by Martin Clark, Director of Bergen Kunsthall, Norway. It takes as its starting point the political, social, cultural, and material histories of the city of Sheffield, enacted and explored through a carefully selected group of international video, film and sound works, as well as three major new commissions made especially for the exhibition by three British artists.

The title of the exhibition, Up, Down, Top, Bottom, Strange and Charm is taken from the six flavours (or types) of quark: the elementary particles that make up every atom, and the fundamental building blocks of matter.

There is a fantastic programme of events happening around the city, from film screenings to gallery tours, so check out the links here and here;  see if there’s anything that tickles your art fancy!

Student Rep Awards – Nominations Open!

Every year, Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union likes to recognise the fantastic work that our student reps do acting as the link between students and their respective faculties.

The Awards are designed to show appreciation for reps who have gone above and beyond, engaging with students to communicate any concerns or feedback that they may have about their course and relaying any information from faculty staff effectively. Our student reps act as a voice for the student population and provide an important bridge between teaching staff and SHU students.

You can nominate student reps from each faculty; someone who you feel has made the biggest impact across groups, societies and departments; as well as academic and support staff who you think deserve recognition.

Nominations for the awards are open now, and can be found here.
