To help you settle into the UK and meet other students, we have arranged a number of social activities and events. All the activities are free unless otherwise stated.
Join us on a short walk to Heeley City Farm on Sunday 16 October, to visit a friendly farm with an environment centre.
Meet at the main University entrance at 10am, with us returning at around 2pm. The farm is about 30 minutes walk from the City Campus and the trip of completely free of charge!
There’s a great range of activities and animals on offer, so come on down and experience farm life in the UK!
Have you ever fancied trying a new sport, but been a bit unsure about what to do or worried about being a beginner? Never fear, the Try It Out sessions from Hallam Active are here!
There are a whole host of different sports that you can try with like-minded beginners in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. From aikido to American football, there’s something for everyone, meaning you can get active and experience something new this semester.

Join us as we explore the popular Ecclesall Road area with independent shops, restaurants and bars.
Ecclesall Road is well-known in Sheffield as one of the most fun places to visit, especially if you’re a keen shopper! There are a number of quirky independent retailers and bigger chains, meaning that there’s a huge choice of new and interesting stores for you to try!
We will continue to the beautiful Botanical Gardens where you will have free time to explore the 18 acre gardens and take in the beautiful scenery, all near the city centre!
This trip is free of charge and will be on Sunday 15 January. Meet us at the main entrance of the University at City Campus at 11am, and we will guide you, returning at approximately 2pm.
If you would like to meet people from around the world
and make new friends – Conversation Club is the place to
be!
Our first Conversation Club of the year is always very busy and full of students from a whole host of different countries. We have activities and ice breakers designed to get you talking and find out about your fellow students.
You’ll receive free refreshments and snacks so come along – you never know who you might meet! This session is on Wednesday 28 September in Hallam Hall, Level 6 of the Owen building from 5–6.30pm.

Our friends at Christ Church Fulwood are hosting an English afternoon tea with cakes, games and English conversation.
Afternoon tea is an old and long-held tradition in England, dating back as far as the 1840s as a mini-meal to bridge the gap between lunch and dinner.
In Britain today, it is enjoyed as a treat or to celebrate special events. It usually includes finger sandwiches, scones, cakes and a pot of loose leaf tea, brewed to compliment the food.
Christ Church Fulwood will be hosting their afternoon tea on Sunday 25 September at 4–6pm, meet at the main University entrance. There’ll also be a short presentation about the Christian faith.
Join us as we visit the magnificent estate of Chatsworth House, the home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire!
The house is set in expansive woodland and wooded rocky hills, making it the perfect place for any keen photographers to get some picturesque shots. Inside, there’s a fantastic collection of paintings, sculptures and furniture that help to transport you back to moments of Britain’s rich and varied history.
Tickets cost only £20 and must be bought in advance from our online store – this includes coach travel to the estate, and admission to the house and gardens. The trip will be on 17 September from 10am–6pm. For more information, check our event listing on the SHU GoGlobal Facebook page.
The annual Sheffield Fayre comes back to Norfolk Park for some good old-fashioned family fun!
The Fayre features a number of traditional British summertime activities, including a horticultural show, dancing and a range of fairground rides as well as food and drink.
Entry to the Fayre is free, but you should take some money along if you’d like to buy any refreshments or have a go on any of the rides!
The Fayre is on Monday 29 August and starts at 10.30am until 4.30pm. For more details, check the Friends of Norfolk Park website.
Join us for a trip to the brilliant Bicester shopping outlet and fulfil all your discounted designer needs!
If you’re in the mood to pick up some great designer bargains, then this is the trip for you. Bicester Village outlet has a whole range of stores, including: Armani, DKNY, Dior, Gucci, Prada and many more, where you can stock up and get the latest looks.
Bicester is known worldwide for its selection, with royalty like Kate Middleton even popping in to pick Prince George up some new baby clothes!
Tickets are available from the Student Services Reception on Level 5 of the Owen building and cost £14. The trip will be on Saturday 13 August from 8am-6pm – meet outside the main University entrance.
Bakewell is the ‘ancient capital of the Peak’, an old beautiful market town in the heart of the Peak District is the location of our next summer SHU GoGlobal trip.
Not only does it have stunning views and is ideal for any budding photographer, but it’s also famous for its pudding – a great excuse to indulge in some traditional confectionery!
We will be taking the bus there, so you will need to purchase a return ticket on the day, which will cost about £6.
We’ll be meeting outside the main entrance of the University at 8am on Sunday 31 July, returning at about 6pm.
