To help you settle into the UK and meet other students, we have arranged a number of social activities and events. All the activities are free unless otherwise stated.

SHU GoGlobal goes to Leeds

Join us on our very first social activity of 2017 – a trip to the fantastic city of Leeds!

Leeds is a cosmopolitan city in West Yorkshire, that is full to the brim of exciting and interesting things to see and do. We will be visiting the Royal Armouries Museum, which displays the National Collection of Arms and Armour in the morning – admission is free. In the afternoon, you will have time to explore the city’s diverse range of shops and galleries.

This trip will take place on Monday 2 January between 9.30am–5pm – meet at the main University entrance, City Campus at 9.30am. We will buy train tickets on the day – these will be approximately £9 for a return with a railcard.

SHU GoGlobal goes to Bradfield

Join us on a trip to the beautiful Bradfield, one of the most picturesque villages on the outskirts of Sheffield!

On this trip we will be visiting Bradfield, which is known for its stunning views of the Peak District and its a great vantage point for any keen photographers.

We will be taking public transport to Bradfield, so please bring some money for the bus and your Sheffield Hallam student card.

The trip will be on Saturday 10 December from 10am–4pm, and we will be meeting outside the main University entrance, at City Campus. You can book your place here on UniHub.

Conversation Club – Christmas special!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and we’ve got an extra special festive edition of Conversation Club just for you!

There will be Christmas-themed snacks such as mince pies for you to try, Christmas activities and a whole host of opportunities for you to meet people from across the world. This is one of our favourite and most fun Conversation Clubs of the year – don’t miss out!

It will be held on Wednesday 14 December at 5–6.30pm in Owen 1029. You can find more information and the booking link here on our Facebook event.

Dr Bike sessions – free bicycle check-ups this winter

Bring your bike along for a FREE check-up. Qualified mechanics will fix any minor problems on the spot and give you advice on any issues that require workshop attention.

Trip to Cambridge

Join us for a trip to the beautiful city of Cambridge, home to the River Cam, punting and some of the most famous university buildings in the world!

Cambridge is a University city of old streets, ancient colleges and lovely bridges spanning the River Cam. There are historic and contemporary buildings to visit, world renowned museums, fantastic theatres and live music.

We’ll be going on Saturday 26 November from 8am – meet outside the main University entrance, City Campus. Tickets are non-refundable unless the trip is cancelled by the SHU GoGlobal Team. Buy your tickets from

Showcase your talent at SHU Fest 2017!

The International Experience Team is proud to present SHU Fest 2017 – a week-long extravaganza of music, performances, art and much, much more!

Join us from 6 March 2017 across both campuses as we celebrate the talent and diversity of our staff and students, taking in live performances, interactive workshops and social events across the University including film screenings, music, dancing, craft, cookery and more.

Scouting for talent!

We are on the look-out for staff and students that can sing, dance, play an instrument or have any other talents. You could join previous performers such as the Cocklebread Band (made up of Jim Darnill, Errol Francis and friends) and Three Professors, No Piano (Professors Cranston, Eccleston and Sammon) by headlining on the main stage! Or you could run an interactive workshop, like Helen Paskins, who taught participants how to knit.

British Cultural Event

The Queen, fish and chips and red double decker buses, what do these things all have in common? They’re British!

Join us for a celebratory evening of British culture including music, games and food. Tickets can be bought from Chef Hallam, Level 6, Owen Building by 2pm on Monday 21 November. The evening includes a traditional British meal of pie and peas, a vegetarian option is also available.

The cost will be £2, when you buy your ticket from Chef Hallam please bring it along to the event on Wednesday 23 November from 5pm in Heartspace, Level 2, Owen Building.

Trip to Grave’s Park and Bishop’s House

Join us for a trip to Sheffield’s biggest park!

There is plenty for you to visit and explore, including formal gardens, a rare breeds farm, ancient woodland, a cafe and more.

We will take the bus there so please bring £4 for a return bus ticket. You must register your interest with us here before the trip.

Meet our student crew Arzu at the Main University entrance,  Level 5 Owen building on Sunday 23 October at 10am, returning around 2pm.

Education project – tell British students about your culture!

We have an opportunity to meet with British students and chat to them about your home country, culture and school!

The group of students are training to be teachers and would like to research schools around the world.  They would like to meet you to talk about what school was like in your country, the uniform, the school day, which subjects are taught etc.

You are not expected to be an expert, just give your own opinion of school in your home country. This project has been running for 8 years and has been represented by schools from all across the globe and this is your chance to represent yours!

This is a fantastic opportunity to meet British students and share and compare your culture, finding out how schools around the world differ and what we could learn from this.
