To help you settle into the UK and meet other students, we have arranged a number of social activities and events. All the activities are free unless otherwise stated.

Happy Chinese New Year to all our Chinese students

Chinese New Year is the biggest Chinese festival of the year, and we at GoGlobal love to celebrate it with our students!

New Year event 2
Students sampling some traditional Chinese food!

As it’s based on the lunar calendar, the date changes each year, falling in either January or February to correspond to the black or new moon. As we move into the year of the monkey, we thought it’d be a great idea to highlight the fantastic event that our students put on to mark the start of the new year!

A celebration event was set up and organised by event management students from the Sheffield Business School and our own International Experience Team; the event included delicious traditional food, craft and cultural demonstrations, as well as a chance to learn about how Chinese New Year is celebrated.

SHU Fest – Selfie Competition

This year’s SHU Fest Selfie Competition is bigger and better than ever!

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a Kim Kardashian-level selfie master then this is the SHU Fest event for you.

If you take a selfie with our booklet then you could win a prize! Post or share your selfie on Twitter or Facebook. Simply print off the first page of the booklet here, and take your selfie. Get creative with it: we’d like to see where you study, sights from where you live and your friends and pets!

In previous years we’ve had students  do group pictures, selfies at the top of mountains and even make a dress out of booklets so get thinking!

SHU Fest – Staff Pick

Every year we like to highlight events that we’re particularly looking forward to – here we highlight our staff pick from the week’s schedule!

The Cocklebread Band are a collection of Sheffield Hallam staff members and students. They got together at the 2012 University Carol Service and put on such an enjoyable performance they were asked to play for every SHU Fest since. Their 30 minute set will take you on a lighthearted romp through world folk, blues, gospel, country and bluegrass. It’s guaranteed to get you singing along.

Catch them on the Heartspace, Level 2 stage in the Owen Building on Thursday 3 March from 12:30 – 1pm.

SHU Fest – Student Pick

Every year we like to highlight events that we’re particularly looking forward to – here we highlight our student pick from the week’s schedule!

Sax Appeal’s Ben Woodard and Iain Hudson are best friends from the south of England. They play everything on saxophone and acoustic guitar covering a wide variety of material including new and old numbers. They come straight from busking, open mics and playing in clubs, and perform the sort of music to eat your lunch to.

Be sure to catch them in the café area of Heart of the Campus on Tuesday 1 March 1-1:20pm.

Check out the rest of the SHU Fest schedule here.
