Chinese New Year celebration at Sheffield Hallam University

Join us for a Chinese New Year event organised bycny-delhi a group of events students.  Learn about Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated.  Free food will be served along with cultural performances, crafts and dumpling making.

This event is free and open to all staff and students at Sheffield Hallam University.

Christmas Conversation Club- Wednesday 9 December

Our Christmas Conversation Club takes place this Wednesday 9 December from 5pm-6.30pm in Owen 1025.

Conversation Club is one of the best ways to meet new friends in Sheffield with prizes, fun activities and free food and drink. Everybody is welcome, there is no need to register just come on the day.

Trip to Bakewell Christmas Market- Saturday 28 November

As part of our ‘Introducton to British Culture’ events we have organised a trip to the delightful market town of Bakewell.

Bakewell is a very typical English village.  We will be taking the bus to which is approximately £6, there is no need to book in advance for this trip.

Please meet our student crew at the main University entrance (City Campus) at 10am.

Experience British Culture Trips

We have a few places left on our forthcoming trips,

Weekend Trip to Edinburgh, Friday 20th November-Sunday 22 November 2015.

Discover one of the UK’s most beautiful cities on our trip to Edinburgh.  We will be setting off late afternoon on Friday 20th November returning on Sunday 22 November.

The price includes 2 nights in a hotel, travel and entry to the historic Edinburgh Castle.  Tickets are priced just £110 and available from the Hubs (Students’ Union building).

Day Trip to Cambridge, Saturday 5 December 2015

Cambridge is a University city of historic buildings, ancient colleges and lovely bridges spanning the River Cam.  There are world renowned museums, fantastic theatres and live street performers.

Tickets are priced at just £12 and are available from the Student Services Centre, level 5, Owen Building.

 

British Cultural Event – 18 November 2015

A group of British students have organised an evening of British entertainbritish-flag-300x166ment for you.

The evening will include live performances of British songs, a British quiz, an opportunity to take a selfie with the Queen and other British icons and British food.  It is a great way to experience British culture and to meet new British friends.

The event will be held on 18th November in the Heartspace Cafe., level 2.

Tickets MUST be bought in advance (before 1.00pm on Monday 16th November).  Please buy your tickets from any till at Chef Hallam Central.  The ticket includes a hot meal (bangers and mash)

 

Experience British Culture at Sheffield Hallam

The International Experience team have organised a number of events which will help you experience British culture and meet new friends.

Highlights of the month long programme include,

-A James Bond film screening (30th October)
-Experience the traditional British festival Bonfire night (5th November)
– A trip to the Beatles Museum and the City of Liverpool (7th November)
-British Cultural evening in the Heartspace Café  organised by British students (18th November)
-A trip to the beautiful English City of Cambridge (5th December)

SHU GoGlobal Fair – 24 September 2015

There are so many exciting projects you can get involved with at Sheffield Hallam University.  To showcase these projects we are organising a SHU GoGlobal fair where you can talk to people who have taken part.

Contributors include students who have been involved with,

–          Setting up a social enterprise
–          Bringing TEDx to Sheffield Hallam University
–          Erasmus exchanges abroad
–          Campus jobs
–          Balloon Kenya project
–          Culture Connect
–          Setting up a Students’ Union society

Summer events

Everybody is welcome to join our summer events, they are a great way to meet new friends and explore Sheffield together.

Ice Skating, Wednesday 15 July, Meet outside the main University entrance (Owen) at 6pm

Meet our student crew for a fun evening at Ice Sheffield.  On Wednesday evenings students skate for £4 including skate hire (with your student card).  We will take the tram there so please bring £4 for a return fare.

Walk in the Peak District, Saturday 18 July, Meet outside the main University entrance (Owen) at 10.30am)

 We have organised  a trip to the delightful market town of Bakewell, famous for its pudding and market.  We will be taking the bus to Bakewell which is approximately £6 return.  Please pay on the day.

Summer of Fun in Sheffield

We have organised over 50 events, trips and activities this summer which will help you explore the UK and the local area.  Our day trips are open to all current students and include visits to  York, Cambridge, Newcastle and the beautiful seaside village of Whitby.  Most of the trips are only £10 and can be bought from the Hubs from 2.00pm on Monday 8th June.

We have also organised a number of free ‘explore Sheffield’ events which will help you meet new friends and discover new places in the City.

All activities are in the ‘Summer Of Fun’ booklet which is available from Student Services Centre on level 5 of the Owen Building.
