The University can now boast another iconic space for staff and students at City Campus, after work was completed in April 2017 on a two-year refurbishment of Sheaf and EMB that has included the creation of a stunning atrium linking the two buildings.

The atrium, officially known as the Hertha Ayrton STEM Centre, is the centrepiece of an £11million development to support high-quality STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) activities. As well as the centre – which boasts galleries, collaborative spaces and social learning and provides access from the train station – the development includes a cutting-edge chemistry lab and modern new engineering provision. The refurbishment presents a great opportunity for us to improve both the student and staff experience in these locations.
