Work to replace the Atrium roof and refurbish the internal space is progressing really well and we are currently on programme to complete the work in September 2021. We have recently developed the detail for the new catering outlet due to replace Cutting Edge and should be able to provide an update on this exciting new space early in the new year. The work required to replace the leaking roof is currently ahead of programme which is good news as we go through Winter and this week we are installing the first of the new glass on to the roof.
The glass for the new roof has been designed with inter-layers which are located in key areas across the roof to help control the amount of heat gain and glare which is an existing issue in the space, especially on level 5. The new roof also has some solid sections which allow access for maintenance whilst also improving the insulation and acoustic performance of the Atrium space. We are installing living plants throughout the Atrium in a series of timber planters which are also designed to help to improve the acoustics in the Atrium.
Whilst we have the access equipment in place, we are taking the opportunity to replace the glazing system to the Owen building stair wells and lift lobby. This work is due to commence on Monday 14 December and a separate message will be posted about this work on the disruptions blog.
