Work on EMB level 2 is progressing to plan and computer installation for the handed-over areas has finished on this floor. Drainage works to level 1 and the catering unit are progressing well and expected to be complete by the end of this month. In order for the final section of the new drainage system to be completed, contractors will be working on the new connections over the weekend of 4 and 5 June. This will require them to close down toilet facilities on all levels of EMB. Although this is out of normal working hours, and facilities should be restored by Monday morning, any staff or students using the building during those days will need to access alternative toilets in Sheaf building during this time.

Final small works and snagging items are being addressed on Sheaf level 2 ready for handover back to the University later this month. Demolition and enabling works in the new Atrium are 95% complete and steel installation for the new lift and staircase has begun. We continue to have some issues with water ingress into rooms 4027 and 4028 in Sheaf, which is being caused by the ongoing installation. The contractors are working swiftly to deal with these leaks as they arise and are doing all they can to prevent further ingress during these works.

Minor work on EMB level 1 continues until 30 May although the catering outlet, Eric’s, will remain open during this period. As mentioned in the previous update, work has also begun on the refurbishment of around two-thirds of Sheaf level 1.

The tower crane, which will be erected on the old NMB site, is now due to arrive on Monday 6 June. Another smaller crane, sited on Pond Street, will also be operative later in May for steel installation but this work will be completed out of hours so will not involve any changes to traffic and pedestrian access.
