On Friday 27 June, our Go Yellow Day, we held a Cross Campus Commute which was a great success. The event was aimed at raising awareness of cycling as a quick, easy, stress-free and safe way to travel between our two campuses. The commute coincided with an announcement that we will be creating a new cycle hub at City Campus with 110 new covered and secure cycle racks. 35 cycle racks will also become available at Collegiate when Heart of the Campus opens in September.

The commute was strongly supported by colleagues across the University in terms of stewards, marshals and crowds at both campuses. Cyclists with a wide range of experience took part and included the Vice Chancellor, our FD Director Mark Swales and Asst Director of Commercial Services Richard McGloin. In addition, the event helped encourage staff to raise money for Marie Curie and the Vice Chancellor’s Care Leavers’ Fund. We have had excellent feedback about the event and there was a great vibe. A photo album of the event and other information about sustainable events and initiatives can be found on our Pass it On Facebook page.
