Capability Focus
Apprenticeship Delivery is all about drawing out the lived experiences of the work based learner so they can construct both shared and unique elements to their knowledge skills and professional behaviours. Course Teams are encouraged to discuss their WBL Assessment Practice and engage in Peer Observation (see the template for Apprenticeship Peer Observation in Appendix 6 of the SHU Apprenticeship Delivery Guide). Some key themes to reflect on:
- Module delivery of Apprenticeship Essentials through your Scheme for Embedding Essentials (and links to the WBL Coach)
- The role of Assessment for the Development of KSBs to provide Apprentices with stepping stones to competence that draw on their work integrated learning (not abstract hoops to jump through!)
- Constructing an individual learning journey through a heutagogical approach to Learning Teaching and Assessment
- Understanding the Apprenticeship Identity and priorities – e.g. Agile facilitation of peer to peer knowledge and story-telling in the class room
- The delivery of knowledge skills and behaviours (KSBs) in all modules as vital to supporting the Apprenticeship journey to End Point Assessment

The University’s Course Delivery Guide for Blended Learning is a valuable and extensive resource including an Apprenticeship-focussed section which highlights the importance for KSB workshops, focussed support on 20% Off The Job Training, Peer to peer activity, and advice on building community across an Apprenticeship cohort.
