We are proud to present a week-long celebration of the talent and diversity of our students and staff. This year is bigger and better than ever, with a whole host of fantastic performances and workshops at both City and Collegiate Campus.

Here’s a selection of activities going on throughout the week:

  • Monday 6 March, 12–12.30pm Heartspace, level 2, Owen building – Three Profs and a Percussionist
  • Professors (Profs) Cranton, Eccleston and Sammon are world experts in their fields as well as being musicians. Expect to hear rock, pop and folk delivered with a sprinkling of good humour making full use of the guitar, mandolin, bass and ukulele. You’ll recognise the songs – just not played like this.

 

  • Tuesday 7 March, 12.30–12.55pm Heartspace, level 2, Owen building –Imba Basi Band
  • Staff member Jane Muller and friend will perform a stripped back set of original songs. Mixing the percussive sounds of Africa with the best of beautiful Western acoustic, they’ll bring you original music rich in harmonies and rhythm. Their music, some commissioned by the National Coal Mining Museum and Yorkshire Wildlife Park, will transport you from England to Africa with story songs, and lyrical poetry.

 

  • Wednesday 8 March, 5–8pm Hallam View, level 6, Owen building – Big SHU Quiz
  • It’s time for the infamous SHU Fest quiz, testing the brain power of both staff and students! Enter a team of up to four people for your chance to win a prize. Entry is £5 per person which includes bar snacks and all money raised will be donated to the Facilities Directorate’s nominated charity. Places are limited so book your place at SHUfest@shu.ac.uk – along with the names of your team members.

 

  • Thursday 9 March, 12.30–2pm Owen 221 – Sugarcraft workshop with Nicky Fuller
  • Staff member Nicky will show you how to create a teddy bear using sugar paste, teaching you simple modelling techniques which will inspire you to take up the art of sugarcraft and cake making. Places are limited, so please book your place at tinyurl.com/sugarcraft17

 

  • Friday 10 March, 12–12.15pm Heartspace, level 2, Owen Building – Finger guitarist – Geoff Olner
  • As well as lecturing in Architecture, Geoff has been playing the guitar for several years. He derives his performances from the legendary Gordon Giltrap, Tommy Emmanuel and Clive Carroll.
