Students, Money and Mental Health
The theme for this year’s NSMW is Students, Money and Mental Health. Mental health issues can make dealing with money difficult. Also problems with money can cause mental health issues such as stress, anxiety or depression. A moneysavingexpert survey in 2014 found that 36% of people who have had or have a mental health issue have severe or crisis debts.
If you are struggling with your finances or your mental health, remember there are people and organisations that are able to help you.
- Student Funding and Money Skills staff can talk to you about student funding and managing your money
- Student’s Union Advice Centre can provide budgeting and debt advice appointments. They can also provide advice if you are facing eviction
- Student Wellbeing can help you with personal issues that might affect your studies. They offer self-help resources, tips for looking after yourself, workshops, 1-1 appointments and e-counselling.
- Support in a crisis – if you need to speak to someone in an emergency or when we’re closed, please contact your GP, NHS on 111 or the Samaritans on 116 123 or jo@samaritans.org
You can also download NASMA’s Mental_Health_leaflet_contacts_Jan_2016 for further sources of support.
