  • Get a job over the summer – this is good for the bank balance and good for your CV. You can get help and information on getting part-time work from the Careers and Employability Service at SHU.   • See the world’s largest annual sporting event! This summer the Tour de France comes to Sheffield – and Sheffield Hallam University is proud to be an official supporter of the Grand Départ 2014. You can enjoy the great atmosphere and watch Le Tour in Sheffield on the Sunday 6 July. You can also enjoy some great related events and activities happening here at SHU and can find out more at: www.shu.ac.uk/letour

  • Go to the Sharrow Festival on Saturday 21 June. Sharrow Festival 2014 is one of the biggest local community events in Sheffield. It celebrates the diversity of the area with song, music, dance and literature. See www.sharrowfestival.btck.co.uk for more information.

FestivalDo some volunteering – again, great for your CV and great for meeting people and doing something worthwhile. Hallam Union has lots of exciting, rewarding and flexible volunteer opportunities including sports and fitness, conservation, festival stewarding, charity work and more. See www.hallamunion.org/volunteering for more information.

  • Go on a day trip! Hallam Union have organised loads of day trips for the summer period. You can choose from a whole range of places including a seaside day out in Whitby, history and culture in York or shopping in Liverpool. Day trips are priced from £10 – £20. See the Summer School Events Calendar for information on all the trips.
  • Explore Sheffield’s parks this summer. You could go on a SHU trip to the Botanical Gardens on Sunday 10 August from 10am–2pm. Meet at the main entrance, City Campus and take a 30 minute walk to the beautiful Botanical Gardens near our Collegiate Campus with free Students in sunshinetime to explore the 18 acre gardens. You could also go to Norfolk Heritage Park on Sunday 24 August or Monday 25 August, 10.30am–5.30pm for the Sheffield Fayre. This free event returns in its twelfth year of major historical living history, re-enactment, crafts, market stalls, traditional fairground attractions and more.

Remember, although you may be on a break from classes, the University is still open with access to all the services you need…

  • Our Learning Centres are open 24/7/365 with your Shu Card. See http://library.shu.ac.uk for more information (and don’t forget to return your books if you are away for the summer!)
