Sheffield’s annual Pinknic will take place on Devonshire Green on 25th May.

The event aims to bring together family, friends and supporters of the LGBT community for a day of fun and entertainment.

For more information visit www.sheffieldpinknic.co.uk/ or the Facebook page.

This week, here in the Advice and Information team we celebrated our very own office Pinknic!

We wanted to show support for self-defining LGBT Hallam staff as well as students, and demonstrate that we are an inclusive environment.

Staff from Advice and Information, International Student Support, Student Financial Support and Disabled Student Support put their baking skills to the test

baking various pink or rainbow themed creations.

The winning baker was Vic Ishaq in the Advice and Information team!

The money we have raised will be going to the Sheena Amos Youth trust (SAYiT) based in Sheffield http://www.sayouthtrust.org.uk/ who provide support, information and opportunities for young people aged up to 25 who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) or who are affected by HIV.

Check out the article we wrote last week about SHU students working with young people at SAYiT on the subject of homosexuality in sport.

Where can I access more information about LGBT?

Hallam Union has a liberation group where self-defining LGBT+ students can meet similar people to socialise and campaign around the issues that affect the LGBT+ community, whilst making sure the LGBT+ students at Hallam are represented by their Union.

If you would like to speak to someone about any issue in this article or a personal issue that may be affecting you, Student Services at Hallam have a daily drop-in, which is free, confidential and impartial open to all students.
