Student Finance England funding

Students returning to their studies in 2014/15 can now start re-applying for their student funding from Student Finance England.  You need to apply by 27th June 2014 to ensure your student funding is in place for the new academic year.

Students on a sandwich course going onto their placement year in 2014/15 will only receive the reduced rate maintenance loan from Student Finance England (plus placement salary if applicable).

If you’re going into your placements year, you must therefore make provision to cover any additional costs such as childcare.   (If you are on an unpaid placement, contact Student Finance England as students on some unpaid placements will still be eligible for the normal rate of funding).

Contacting Student Finance England

Student Finance England has a new number 0300 100 0607– calls to this number will cost no more than calls to geographic (01 and 02) numbers and will also count towards free call packages on mobiles!

The Student Finance Zone has a range of helpful tools and guidance at www.thestudentroom.co.uk/studentfinance

Students can also ask a question of an SFE adviser at one of the

Student Finance surgeries which take place every Wednesday between 1.00p.m. and 4.00 p.m at http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=910

When speaking to SFE over the phone, it’s a good idea to keep a log of the name of the SFE person you spoke to, the date and time, what the person at Student Finance England (SFE) said, and what action they have taken as a result (keeping a note of any recorded delivery numbers)

In addition – for NHS-funded courses:

The NHS has extended the deadline date for receiving bursary applications in order to give certain continuing NHS students more time to gather the financial supporting evidence that is required to assess their  NHS bursary application e.g. the P60 for 2013/14.

Continuing NHS Students are advised to check the extended deadline dates for applying.  There are number of changes the NHS is bringing into effect from 1 September 2014. This may have an impact on certain students’ funding when they reapply after this date especially if they are applying for additional allowances i.e. dependants’ allowance. Students are advised to visit NHS Business Services Authority for further information.
