We thought it might be interesting for you to know the kinds of things we get asked on Student Advice and Information reception and in our Student Advice drop-in. Last year (2012-13) we handled over 35,000 personal and phone enquiries, plus additional email enquiries. This academic year, from September to December, we’ve had 367 drop-in appointments with students! (This is compared with 298 in Semester 1 last year). You can imagine that we get asked lots and lots of different questions…so to give you an idea of what we do, here’s a flavour of some of our top enquiries…

Top 11 enquiries on Student Advice and Information reception:

  1. Students wanting support and advice with a disability or health issue
  2. International students with enquiries about their visa
  3. People asking for directions around campus
  4. Students who are concerned about their course or assessments
  5. Students who are worried about their finances or their student loans/fees being late
  6. Students enquiring about study support

In our Student Advice drop-ins, the main things students want to talk about are:

  • Concerns about assessments or progression (how well they are doing on their course)
  • Worries that they are on the wrong course / considering changing course
  • Worries about university life / considering leaving University altogether

So, if you have a question, concern or need some information or advice, why not call in at your nearest Student Services reception (level 5 Owen Building or Collegiate Learning Centre)? Speak to our friendly staff on reception or, if you’d rather speak in confidence and privacy, ask to see an Adviser in a Student Advice drop-in. We’re happy to listen and if we aren’t able to help you ourselves, we’ll help you find out who can!
