Have you started 2014 feeling energised and full of ambition for the year ahead? Or are you experiencing a bout of the ‘January blues’ and struggling to return to uni or work after the festive holiday? (We noticed a handy article from the Guardian about how to beat the January blues. It’s worth a read!)

Whether you’re excited about the year ahead and have a list of resolutions to keep you active and healthy this year or whether you’re feeling downbeat about having to get up early and face the days ahead, Student Services at SHU are here to encourage and support you to feel happier and healthier at uni and in your personal life.

The Student Wellbeing service have a handy leaflet with ten things you can do to look after yourself. Check it out, here. The suggestions include tips on how to get involved in social activities and healthy recreation such as organised walks in the countryside or voluneering. There are also useful links to University clubs and societies and more practical tips on how to feel happier and healthier in day to day life.

Student Wellbeing Workshops

Student Wellbeing host a variety of workshops on wellbeing-related topics including Stress Management and Settling In to University Life. Attending one of these workshops could give you the encouragement and confidence you need to start making positive changes to your work life balance and emotional wellbeing. If you’d rather talk to someone one-to-one why not attend a Student Wellbeing drop-in session?

(If you need to speak to someone when Student Wellbeing is closed, please contact your GP, NHS Direct on 111 or 0845 4647 or the Samaritans on 08457 909090 or jo@samaritans.org)
