We thought we would bring you some ideas of things you could do or might like to know about around the festive season, whether you are staying in Sheffield for Christmas, heading home or going on holiday.
So here goes…
1. Don’t forget you might have exams in January! You can see our top tips on preparing for your exams here
3. Take part in the record-breaking attempt of the ‘Largest Gathering of People Wearing Christmas Jumpers/Sweaters‘ in the Atrium on Friday 13 December 12pm www.facebook.com/shupassiton
4. Drink lots of water over the Christmas break, so you’re on great form for January and don’t over indulge on alcoholic drinks! See the Drinkaware site here for facts about Christmas drinking and for an alcohol unit calculator here. Also, check out SHU Student Wellbeing’s Ten things you can do to look after yourself guide here for some great ideas on looking after mind and body. Good for the festive season and beyond
5. Don’t forget to return your library books. Remember our Learning Centres are open 24/7/365 with Shu Card. See http://library.shu.ac.uk for more information
6. Apply for the Christmas lunch at St Mark’s Church, Broomhill, from 1:00 – 4:00 on Wednesday 25 December. Apply at: www.surveymonkey.com/s/Christmasdaymeal2013 (please note you must apply in advance – tickets are not available on Christmas day)
7. Go ice skating on Wednesday 18 December. Meet at the main entrance, City Campus at 6:00 pm. You will need to bring around £7.00 to pay for the skating, skate hire and your tram fare. Email localfriends@shu.ac.uk stating ‘Attending Ice Skating – 18 December’ if you are interested
8. Go to the Games Night at Aspect 3 Common Room (Edward St, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S3 7GB) where Sheffield International College is hosting a games night including pool, table tennis and XBox. It’s on Friday 27 December from 5:00 – 10:00 pm and is free of charge
9. Go on the Christmas walk to Endcliffe Park and Forge Dam on Sunday 29 December. Meet at the Christmas tree outside the Town Hall at 10:30 am and bring some bus fare and a packed lunch or money for the café
10. If you’re needing someone to talk to or give you some help and support over the holiday period, have a look at SHU Student Wellbeing’s Happy Christmas?? leaflet. It’s got lots of useful information on organisations that are there for you over the Christmas period and beyond. Remember also, that the Samaritans are available 24/7 if you need somebody to talk to over the holidays or any time. You can contact them on 0114 276 7277 or 08457 909 090 or email:jo@samaritans.org.
And finally, have a lovely break and come back to University feeling refreshed and ready for the New Year. And remember, you can find out about the full range of activities available over the Christmas period (the above is just a selection) at www.facebook.com/StayingInSheffield.
