Dr Alessandro Di Nuovo is Reader with the Department of Computing, where he is leading the Smart Interactive Technologies (SIT) Research group and conducting internationally renowned research in interdisciplinary applications of computational intelligence and robotics, including health and wellbeing. Outside the group, he collaborates with associate members among the permanent staff of several SHU departments, Computing, Engineering, Psychology, and Allied Medical Professions.
He has a sustained research track record, including over 80 scientific outputs, often as primary author or research director, including 19 journal articles, 6 book chapters for renowned editors and many peer-reviewed publications in high-quality conference proceedings.
Dr Di Nuovo research work received many proofs of esteem by international academic communities, notably the best journal article award from the AISC (Italian Association for Cognitive Sciences) and the Silver Best Paper Award from the IFToMM (International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science).
Dr Di Nuovo has extensive experience in communicating his research, he has presented at over 30 international events, including oral presentations at top scientific conferences (IEEE), invited talks at industrial meetings (IBM, NVIDIA) and a public lecture for the British Computer Society South Yorkshire Branch.
Dr Di Nuovo is also a member of the Editorial Boards of international scientific journals: Cognitive System Research (Elsevier) and Robotics (MDPI).
In 2014, Dr Di Nuovo was elevated to the grade of Senior Member by the world’s largest association of technical professionals, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Among more than 400,000 members, the senior member grade has been granted to the top 7% members only.
