Conservation and Sustainability Overview
In line with the University’s Sustainability Strategy, the Head Post Office has been refurbished to ensure it operates as efficiently as possible, and that environmental impacts are reduced. This has been achieved despite listed building status which relates to many areas of the building.
The sustainable features that have been incorporated are:
- a smart building management system which controls thermal comfort and lighting as well as minimising energy usage
- LED lighting and occupancy and daylight controls
- windows have been fully refurbished to ensure the building is air tight and that heat is not lost
- additional insulation has been installed in the roof
- heating is provided via the local district heating network (which runs on general waste from the University and surrounding areas)
- cycle storage and shower facilities have been provided
- provision has also been made for solar panels to be installed at a later date.
