If you could turn back time (in the words of Cher), what would your dream prom look like? Would it be Masquerade Ball, A Carnival based upon the famous sites in Rio or a Dance through the Decades. These were just some of the ideas submitted in our SHU School Prom Competition.
With the chance to win a support package worth £5000 the finalists gathered on the 27th of February in Sheffield Hallam Universities City View hospitality facilities to find out if the prize was theirs.
As the celebration evening started to glamorous snow back drop outside, we settled in to view all of the submissions together from 6 different schools; Serlby Park Academy, Tupton Hall School, Hill House School, Dearne Valley College, Outwood Academy Newbold and Dronfield Henry Fanshawe
All of the submitted videos displayed a high level of quality and the clear amount of effort and school pride. Each video displayed a quality of innovation and dedication that clearly matched, and may have surpassed last year’s submissions.
Mark Norman, our resident events expert and Events Management lecturer at Sheffield Hallam, spoke about his experiences of University and working in the events industry and how he was taken aback by the talent displayed in these videos. He then invited two of his recently graduated students to talk about their experiences of studying events courses. They went on to tell us that it can be a challenging industry, however, seeing your vision come to fruition after you have worked hard to put it together, makes it incredibly worthwhile.
As the tension built it was then time to announce the winner…
In 3rd Place…Hill House School…The runners-up…Serlby Park Academy.
…and the winner is…. Tupton Hall School!
Tupton Hall’s video eloquently described how Tupton Hall School is full of a rich history and has a group of students incredibly dedicated to make sure that its story is told. These students displayed a range of creative ideas including tables individually decorated to showcase a different period in time and a photographic showcase of their time in school.
The winner’s received a well-deserved package of support (worth 5k!) towards their school prom. This includes invaluable support, guidance and advice from staff and students at Sheffield Hallam as well as consultation and supplies from local events agency 77Events.
The competition was a fantastic opportunity for these students to gain a first-hand look into the events industry as well as developing core transferable skills in a fun and enjoyable competition.
We hope Tupton Hall have a prom that they will never forget.
