Dronfield Henry Fanshawe prom entry 'logo'
Prom competition entry

Following the amazing success of our Prom Competition last year, we were over the moon to secure the project for a second time.   This event brings school students  together to pool their creative and collaboration skills to make and submit a 2 minute video detailing their dream prom which is then judged by an expert panel of events and marketing staff.

This years’ entrants (including 2017 winners Dronfield Henry Fanshawe) arrived at Sheffield Hallam ready and raring to go for the opportunity to win a package of support worth £5000!  And a chance to make their prom truly, the best yet!

Mark Norman, our resident events expert, led the session for the second year running. With a long portfolio of events and organisations, such as the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay, 2014 Tour de France and various events in collaboration with the BBC, he was definitely up to the challenge.  As he welcomed the schools into the session, he demonstrated that there were some key rules to follow:

  • Schools can each only enter 4 students to represent their school in the competition. More students can be involved in the creation of their prom, but only 4 are allowed to represent.
  • Each school can only submit one video; this video must be no more than two minutes long and must detail the following; An introduction to the school and the team, the theme of the prom (masquerade, carnival etc.), what would the students do to deliver an innovative and creative event? And what are the key elements that will make your prom stand out (is the menu particularly spectacular, or is there a photo booth)?
  • The event must be feasible! As much as we would love to jet you off to Rio for a carnival prom, we can’t, so keep it realistic!
  • The videos will be put on the Sheffield Hallam University Facebook Page from the 27th of November; the video with the most interactions (likes, shares, and views) and with the most points from the judges (based on Social media figures, School Representation, and Creativity) will win!

With the briefing in hand the race was on, to create the best prom vision and execution possible! Before even leaving the room ideas were thrown from person to person, each more inventive than the last.

With the day a resounding success we leave the task in the incredibly capable hands of each team. After seeing the sheer enthusiasm during the session, as the deadline looms we cannot wait to see what these students come up with!  And we will continue to update you as the competition develops.

Don’t forget, to view what these teams are up against, have a look at last year’s winning video here!  And tune in from the 27th of November on the Sheffield Hallam University Facebook page to cast your likes, shares and views for each video!
