Disparity in attainment series: Using the data
Available for Sheffield Hallam University staff only.
Data is not enough: using the data to influence change.
A starting point for most educational interventions to target the attainment gap is through the use of quantitative data to identify patterns and explore trends. This is rightly so as Kirkup et al 2005, for example, found that the effective use of data can promote better teaching and learning. However, are we using the appropriate data – and are we using the data appropriately?
The purpose of this session is therefore to identify the types of data, both institutionally and sector wide that is currently being used to inform work on the attainment gap. It seeks to share good practice at SHU, better understand the data available and how to use it, and how to mine the data more effectively to better target interventions.
