This website has been designed to help you to understand more about the Degree Awarding Gap, between white and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME students), the causes of the gap, and what can be done to reduce and then eradicate the gap.  The attainment gap at Hallam is above the national average at 15 percentage points (2019/2020).

“Having a degree awarding gap between our white and our Black, Asian and minority ethnic students is unacceptable. Reducing and eradicating the gap requires sustained effort from all staff, working alongside our students.” Professor Sir Chris Husbands (Vice-Chancellor).

We believe all students should have access to equal opportunities in a fair, inclusive environment and our dedicated team works with University staff and students to deliver targeted action to reduce the gap. These include improving institutional processes, enhancing the knowledge and skills of staff and students, and providing better support.
