LTA project encouraging cross course collaboration and industry experience

DMP (Level 5) & FMP students are currently collaborating on a LTA project working with industry to develop viral marketing for various projects including ‘Urbex’ a previous FMP film which has broken into the festival market including DocFest and Aesthetica FF, available at:

Last year four DMP level 5 students worked on a similar LTA project with tutor Anne Doncaster. Toni Lumley, Nick Emmerson, Emily Burcham & Blake Aldred-Ling (picture of students at the top of this post) were promoting the documentary ‘Still Loved’ (previously ‘Still Born, Still Loved’) from Debbie Howard documentary film maker of Big Buddha Films (http://bigbuddhafilms.co.uk).

The students created a whole host of marketing material to help promote the documentary. The project was a complete success, resulting in a Kick-Starter campaign, which raised £5,000 to fund the continuation of the filming of the documentary. This was an extra curricula project and this short walk through video of the whole project showcases the great work they achieved working to tight deadlines alongside their normal course workload.

The project also offered the chance for the students to work at Doc/Fest in a variety of roles, some being based in the Crossover Lounge where the students were able to learn about interactive documentaries and have access to the BBC Blue room.

Here are some of the quotes from the students involved in the project:

“I enjoyed working on the project. We used multiple different types of software including, Photoshop, Flash, Zeega,  WordPress and Kickstarter to create the respected materials for project.”

“The Crossover roles helped me to learn about the genre of interactive documentaries and meet new people involved in this area, plus the BBC Blue room which was apart of the room I was ‘looking’ after, basically it was three stands from the BBC which displayed their new technologies they’d like or see being implemented in the near future.”

“I found working on this project very different in a very good way and can see this being used in many future projects all over to help make them more open for the audience to continue gaining the audience interests.”

“I was involved in Doc/Fest and thoroughly enjoyed it, I feel that I learnt quite a bit especially from my Wednesday, since I was asked to be an Artist Liaison for the day. My other roles involved Crossover Agent(Thursday-Saturday) and Crossover Crew (Mon-Tue).”
