Welcome to a new academic year from everyone at Hallam LGBT+ Staff Network. We are here to drive positive change, create and promote a safe, supportive environment for LGBT+ communities at Sheffield Hallam University and the city.
It’s a very exciting time for the LGBT+ Network, we are currently rebranding and have a new committee in place with oodles of enthusiasm to widen participation across Hallam. Our purpose is to provide a forum for LGBT+ staff to meet and advise the University on LGBT+ policies and provide social engagement opportunities.
We organise events throughout the year: particularly for LGBT+ History Month, IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia), Sheffield Pride, and Pinknic. Within our activity plan are opportunities for members to meet informally and create friendships with likeminded people whose paths would not necessarily cross during a normal working day. Social events include lunches, evening meetups, and LGBTea+ where every two months participants will be randomly paired to meet for a cuppa tea.
The group is open to all staff of Sheffield Hallam University who self-define as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans or any other way you may wish to identify under the LGBT+ umbrella. There are three membership options, from fully out role models to discrete members. Fully and partially out members are invited to monthly network meetings and socials, and discrete members receive emails and meeting agendas/minutes from the co-chairs/secretary (but always contacted by bcc).
The LGBT+ Staff Network wants to build a sense of community and we actively encourage new members to sign up. HR policy allows members the time to attend network meetings within working hours and members can commit to as much (or little) as they want depending on individual needs. New members can sign up anytime and the links are available below.
We are looking forward to the new year and wish everyone a fabulous time along the way.
