Sheffield held it’s first Pride event (South Yorkshire Pride) in 2008, a free community festival for the LGBT community, attracting an attendance of 4,500 people. The event grew each year with police figures giving an attendance of 10-12,000 people in 2012. From 2013-15 a pride event was held in the city by Sheffield Pride Ltd. Following the announcement by Sheffield Pride Ltd that they would be closing the company and not running any further events, a community consultation was held to gain people’s response and a new Committee was elected.
