Out Thinkers – Pride in STEM
November 15, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Pride in STEM will be hosting the first Out Thinkers in Sheffield, where we will be showcasing some amazingly talented LGBT+ scientists and the research that they do in STEM. The event will be chaired by Jost Migenda, a PhD student in Astroparticle Physics at the University of Sheffield and a previous speaker at Out Thinkers in London.
The speakers will be:
- Izzy Jayasinghe (University of Leeds) about finding the causes of heart failures with ‘super-resolution’ microscopy
- Matt Mears (University of Sheffield) about better ways of teaching physics
- James Mansfield (University of Sheffield) about archaeological glasses and nuclear waste
- Beth Montague-Hellen (University of Nottingham) about “Junk DNA” and its uses
- Vijay Raghavendran (University of Sheffield) about plant-based fuels that could replace petrol
The doors will open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start at the Old Queen’s Head pub. Food and Drinks are available for purchase. The event is free to attend but booking a ticket is required!
Out Thinkers serves to showcase the talent of LGBT+ researchers, providing a platform where people can talk about their scientific work while truly being themselves.
