Important Advice for Overseas and EU Students

If you decide to travel back home:

  • Please fill in this form to let us know of your intention to travel and travel plans
  • Please check your University email address regularly. The situation is changing rapidly, and we may send you further guidance.
  • Your Tier 4 visa (if applicable) will not be affected if you continue to engage with your course online. You can do this by accessing:
    1. lecture materials on Blackboard
    2. lectures and tutorials online, either in real time or recorded
    3. one-to-one support and supervision delivered by phone, email or video conferencing
  • You will be contacted by your Head of Department by the end of this week to explain what arrangements for online teaching have been made for your course.
  • If you are having any problems accessing learning materials or submitting your work remotely, you must contact HallamHelp@shu.ac.uk straight away, so that your course and visa are not affected.
  • The University is currently reviewing its policy on face-to-face exams, but no decision has been made at this time. We will provide further information once the position is confirmed.
  • Please regularly check www.shu.ac.uk/coronavirus for up to date information from the University. We recommend that you bookmark this page on your computer and portable devices.

If you decide to stay in the UK:

  • We would advise you to consider your options very carefully. The travel advice from countries around the world is constantly changing and becoming more restrictive. If you choose to stay now, you may not be able to return to your home country later, for a while. Please consider the financial and visa implications before you make this choice.
  • Please make sure you have enough funds to support yourself in the foreseeable future (at least for the next 6 months) without having to rely on any paid work.
  • Please continue to engage with your studies online and check www.shu.ac.uk/coronavirus regularly for up to date information from the University. We recommend that you bookmark this page on your computer and portable devices.
  • Please stay at home for seven days if you have either a high temperature or a new continuous cough. Refer to the government’s official advice about staying at home. Check the official NHS advice for more information if you are concerned.

I hope the above guidance has provided you with information and advice to guide your next steps. If you need further support our international experience advisers will be holding special Skype drop ins from;
