36 students from Level 5 BA (Hons) Interior Design, SHU at INTI Center of Art and Design have recently pitched to Grand Dorsett Hotel Subang Jaya to re-design the staff café at the hotel. The project began with a briefing by the client, in which the hotel maintenance & F&B team explained to the students the problems the staff were experiencing within the cafeteria.
Students got an opportunity to further study the site through on-site observation, study and analysis to understand further the other problems related to interior design. With the findings obtained, students then begin their task to propose ideas to the hotel, to make the space functional and meaningful for the staff who will are using the place for rest, relax and meals.
This project provides opportunity for students to work with real problems, and through the project, students get to understand the operation of a staff café better and the compliance to the health and safety measure through working closely with the client. At the end of the project, 10 selected students get a chance to present their design proposal to the client, which the managers from the hotel Human Resource Department, Maintenance and Building Facility Departments were present.
Good luck to all involved!
