Changes to the blog
From the beginning of July you’ll see some changes to the blog:
- the frequency of the blog will move to monthly and the email that highlights the blog posts will be sent on the first Wednesday of each month
- the blog will be renamed to Finance and Planning News
- the look and feel of the blog will be redesigned to make it clearer and easier to navigate
This was agreed with the Finance and Planning engagement group back in April.
Also, on Tuesday 12 June all University WordPress sites (like this one) will be down for maintenance between 7am-1pm.
Finance and Planning Directorate Governance
The attached document outlines the purpose of the:
- Finance and Planning Leadership Team
- Finance and Planning Leadership Forum
- Finance and Planning Managers’ Workshops
and also describes who attends these meetings and how often the groups meet.
Engagement meeting 12 June – Agenda
At next Tuesday’s engagement meeting Lorna and I will be giving an update on the upcoming away day and the Finance and Planning shared intranet homepage.
Intranet Homepage – DTS have set a template up for us to use which we can tailor to our requirements. Lorna has mocked up some suggested designs of how the page might look and we’ll be asking for feedback on these in the meeting
As a reminder, this page will purely be a landing page to link to the existing intranets of both teams, the reason being that the staff intranet is going to be replaced over the next few months so Corp Comms have advised us not to do any major changes as we’ll probably have to do it again.
Away Day – We now have a detailed list of tasks from Abbeydale Picture House which we’ll share and discuss. We’ll also be talking about our initial thoughts about how we’ll allocate tasks as well as donating items, timings, travel, tasks, group leads, social event afterwards.
Your engagement champion will give you an update on our discussions in your team meetings.
Oneleven Building – control systems upgrade – Monday 11 and Friday 15 June
Engineers will be onsite Monday 11 and Friday 15 June to upgrade the building control systems; the door access and controls; and the heating and ventilation systems. More details are available on the Future Spaces blog.
Oneleven Café – June
Throughout June the Oneleven café will be closing at 1pm.
Move More Workplace Challenge
To celebrate Move More Month there is an event at the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park on Friday 15 June between 12 noon – 2pm where you can see strongman Paul Smith pull a double decker bus along the 100m track. Find out more here.
If you want to know more about the competition which runs from 1-30 June you can read all about it in this week’s eView.
Work on the Knowledge Gateway begins
This project to transform the corridor running along the Lower Sheaf to the Porter Valley, including Sheffield Midland station is underway.
The site compound is to be on Esperanto Place (behind 1-11 at the bottom of the steps from Arundel Gate) and contractors have begun to establish themselves on site, with initial works starting on Harmer Lane (the road that runs down the side of the bus station, between Pond Street and the A61, the road the train station is on).
The full programme is still being developed but you can read more about it here.
Recycle your old books
Did you know that your old academic or fiction books can be recycled at one of the University libraries?
The library has been recycling books for a while and so far they have saved:
- 683 trees
- 391,410 gallons of water (from books being reused instead of additional books reprinted)
- 93 cubic yards of landfill space
You can either drop your books in to the library reception, or you can send them to Jill Hazard (and drop her an email to let her know).
